Mauritius in December
How would you like to spend Christmas in the tropics, sipping on a cocktail as the sun goes down? It's never too late to try a Mauritian Christmas! Come and spend your December holidays in Mauritius, far from the snow and cold, and experience Christmas differently.
On the spot
December is Mauritians' favourite month. It's a festive month full of excitement and enthusiasm. Shops stay open until late and Christmas markets are organised all over the island. At these markets, you'll find unique, local creations, handmade and made with love. These are great souvenirs or gifts to bring back from your trip.
In December, Lakaz Cascavelle in the west of the island organises an annual concert. Artists from Mauritius – and sometimes Reunion – take to the stage one after the other, and the atmosphere is always great. If you want to sing, dance and forget everything for an evening, this is the place to go!
At 6pm on 24 December, the church bells announce the upcoming midnight mass. Later in the night, you'll hear fireworks and firecrackers. On Christmas Day, the festivities continue. Why not organise a family picnic on the beach on the big day? A Mauritian Christmas is a joyful, gourmet Christmas full of simplicity.
So don't rush off; stay in Mauritius to end the year in style with us. On 31 December, many restaurants and hotels organise festive and gourmet New Year's Eve parties. You can dance the night away and watch fireworks on the beach...

Things to do
There's something for everyone here: horse-riding on the beach, hiking or boat trips.
Take advantage of the sunny weather to climb Morne Brabant, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This mountain offers breathtaking views over the turquoise lagoon of Le Morne. And if you prefer to cool off, head for one of the island's beautiful waterfalls.
