Mauritius in April

Every year, Mauritius celebrates Eid el Fitr, a Muslim religious festival marking the end of Ramadan and the breaking of the fast. Muslim Mauritians get together with their families to share a big meal and moments of prayer.

On this occasion, they eat biryani, a dish made with basmati rice and meat or fish marinated in a mixture of spices and saffron. All generously accompanied by a fresh salad and a tangy tamarind and tomato chutney. The date of Eid changes every year, depending on the moon's phases.

In April, the Nando's RLSS Open Swim also takes place on Pereybere beach in the North of the island. The Open Water Swim is the largest open-water swimming festival in Mauritius. Often held in the last two weeks of April, this swimming festival is much more than just a competitive event.

It's a day when families and friends come together to enjoy a carnival-like experience on the beach. Some courses are even open to children. A family-friendly event that combines sport, challenge and the pleasure of being together!

April in Mauritius is:

  • Temperatures close to 26°C during the day, cooling off in the evening
