Local teas & coffees at Karibu Lounge.
Chai & Kahawa Time
On the island, tea and coffee aren’t just drinks - they’re a moment to pause, chat, welcome someone, or start (and end) the day gently.
And don’t expect them to taste like the ones you know: Zanzibari chai and kahawa are brewed with fresh spices, deeper aromas and a pace of their own.
Our Chai & Kahawa Time takes inspiration from these everyday rituals found across Zanzibar and the Swahili Coast. Every afternoon, Karibu Lounge turns into a relaxed tasting spot.
Our favourites :
-
Chai
Brewed with cinnamon, ginger, star anise and cardamom..
Our chai comes from Kazi Yetu, a Tanzanian B-Corp supporting women farmers and using biodegradable bags. -
Kahawa
Made from Arabica or Robusta beans roasted locally, and often blended with spices like cardamom, clove, cinnamon and ginger.
Our kahawa is roasted by Utengule and Kifaru, local producers who protect biodiversity and contribute to education and clean-water projects.

The island’s most iconic street-food skewer.
Mishikaki - Mishika… what?
Served à la carte at Fukwe, our grill & skewer restaurant, mishikaki is one of the island’s go-to comfort dishes.
Think:: a simple skewer, grilled over charcoal and made with whatever’s fresh on the market that day.
At Fukwe, each skewer “tells a story” - inspired by flavours from Zanzibar, Japan, India and South America, always with a local twist in spices, fruits or marinades.
Smoky, vibrant, and rooted in Zanzibar’s global-meets-local food heritage.
