Tourism that Respects Animal Welfare

What? Another commitment?
Are you a hotel group or an NGO?

You’re getting to know us well! If you’re not sure what we’re talking about, you can learn about our commitments here). As a mission-driven company that’s certified B Corp, we advocate for responsible tourism

Through concrete actions, we strive to preserve the island's environment, respect its wildlife, and support those who live here… including animals.

It’s a matter of ecology and ethics.

Preserving the Marine Ecosystem

While relaxing on the beach, we don’t always realise what’s happening below the surface of the water. There’s a whole ecosystem: corals we need to protect, turtles we need to leave in peace, and fish and marine species we can observe without disturbing them.
To encourage awareness, we have introduced

several ways to learn more

  • Marine Discovery Centre

In 2010, we partnered with Reef Conservation Mauritius to create the Marine Discovery Centre, supporting the Anse La Raie lagoon restoration and raising awareness among guests and local communities.

  • Underwater snorkelling trail

has educational signs en route, so you can learn while you snorkel!

  • Blue net

Grab a blue net bag at the Boat House and help us collect ocean and shoreline waste. A simple action that protects marine life and the lagoon during your snorkelling trip.

  • No motorised activities

We don’t offer motorised activities. This helps to preserve a calm area, avoid pollution and protect the corals from propellers.

  • Mineral sunscreen

Available for free in all our hotels: a 100% natural alternative to chemical sunscreens, which contain harmful ingredients for coral reefs.

  • Protection of sea turtles and humpback whales

through partnership agreements with regional organisations dedicated to their conservation, such as Kélonia and the Centre for the Study and Discovery of Marine Turtles.

Let’s Talk Dogs

We can’t advocate for local roots and ignore those who share the landscape with us.

Like in many other countries, stray dogs (and cats) are numerous, resulting from a lack of awareness and education on sterilisation, as well as frequent abandonment.

However, we do a lot to raise awareness within the local community about the importance of this approach.

Happy stories

  • Fifi

Adopted by Tropical Attitude. Officially the guardian of the place, unofficially the guests' favourite mascot

  • Baxter

Born at The Ravenala Attitude, adopted by one of our hotel Family Members (staff). Today, he lives happily and is pampered.

  • Charly

Rescued at The Ravenala Attitude and adopted by a guest. He now lives in Germany, where he experiences snow every winter.
